Our heartfelt prayers go to the injured members of the community praying for a speedy and full recovery and the families whose loved ones are still missing as local authorities and rescue teams conduct search operations for the still–missing. Key Rapid Assessment Findings: Our rapid action team was deployed to affected communities the day immediately after the disaster. From volunteer assessments on the ground across vulnerable Village Development Committees and municipal wards, the following key priority areas have been identified:
Critical Water Systems: Disrupted pipelines, damaged communal taps, and contaminated local water sources pose an immediate risk of waterborne disease outbreaks.
Loss of Livelihoods: Destruction of terrace farms, loss of livestock, and swept-away small retail stores have left marginalized households without food security or income.
Emergency Health & Sanitation: Severely compromised toilet facilities and lack of hygiene kits in temporary holding shelters threaten the safety of women, children and elderly residents. Strategic Response & Appeal for Support to address immediate suffering and ensure long-term stability, Volunteer Service in Nepal is mobilizing a two-phase intervention requiring immediate support from international partners, donor agencies, local businesses and compassionate individuals.
1. Immediate WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) Intervention Distribution of point-of-use water purification tablets, filters, and clean water containers. Construction of temporary emergency sanitation facilities in community hubs. Distribution of comprehensive dignity and hygiene kits to vulnerable families.
2. Livelihood Restoration & Community Resilience Provision of seed funding, agriculture inputs and livestock replacement grants to affected farming families. Support for vulnerable, female-headed households to re-establish home-based income generation activities. Cash-for-Work initiatives focused on clearing local debris and restoring community infrastructure.
